Teacher 1: We focus very much, for example, on boys' performance, which is a national issue, about boys underachieving and we have found that this competitive approach and communicative approach where they are allowed to talk as much as they can in the target language has really encouraged particularly the boys to do that.
Teacher 2: Another key element is the challenge that we build into our daily activities or their challenge to beat the teacher, to beat the clock, to beat each other, to predict how long something is going to take, how long the register is going to take, they predict that at the start of the register routine. So they're constantly encouraged to challenge each other and… which is another factor, I think, in motivation.
