This e-learning unit has explored a variety of ways of developing greater use of the target language and, where possible, has related these strategies to the MFL Framework of objectives.
Good practice requires greater emphasis and usage of the target language.
What new approaches have you discovered here, and:
- How can you build on what you do well already?
- Which specific areas do you need to change and develop?
- How will learners respond to your strategies for greater use of the target language?
- Should you re-examine the ways in which you plan greater use of the target language, possibly with colleagues and across key stages?
Work with a colleague to observe each other's lessons, to monitor the use of target language and if a significant amount of English is used, review why, and consider appropriate strategies that may be put in place to plan the lesson differently, build banks of activities, or address this issue in other ways.
Support will be found by reference to other units in this MFL series, particularly Questioning, Modelling, Practice, Creativity and Planning lessons.
Reviewing your schemes of work will pay dividends if consideration is given to the varied range of opportunities for using the target language.
Aim for consistency across all members of the department and share your good practice strategies.
