MFL learning unit: Target language

One of the many challenges for MFL teachers is in managing the different stages of the lesson using the target language whilst linking activities which help achieve this to the MFL Framework of objectives. Some possible pitfalls are listed below together with some suggested solution strategies.

1a. Ignores opportunities for extended use

Some teachers find it hard to use the target language in particular situations, for example, when:

sharing learning objectives
reviewing learning in plenaries
changing from one activity to another.

You can probably think of other examples where opportunities for extended use are ignored. Sometimes this may be for good reason and can be justified. For other situations, consider the pros and cons of extended target language usage.
