What could be done differently?

This e-Learning unit has placed using the MFL Framework at the centre of its focus in developing your techniques and strategies for lesson planning. From working through the practical tasks you should now be able to:

• identify areas where your planning succeeds in making objectives and outcomes clear and achievable
• develop ways to present and share objectives with learners, particularly using the framework's linguistic progression and objective clustering approach
• extend your range of support strategies, review opportunities and engaging materials for MFL lessons
• recognise learners' gains in terms of engagement, focus, understanding, challenge, achievement and progression.

Possible next steps

MFL departments could develop strategies and professional development targets drawn from individual teacher experiences and feedback as outlined on Screen 3 (Good planning practice) featuring the video clips and recorded discussions.

Reference has already been made to Using the Framework but for your more customised requirements, the Starters, Plenaries, Practice and Questioning units offer more opportunities to develop specific areas of your planning. There are also extension activities in the Assessment for learning and Target language units.

Please note that the current MFL Framework is being renewed and will be available online from September 2009. This module will be renewed in the light of that new Framework and will also be available from September 2009.
