5. Local and national data
The profile gives a wide variety of data available at a range of levels.
The unit has guided school professionals using a methodological approach, or plotting a route through the data in a way that allows them to consider the information they need, whether it be a broad overview or detailed investigation. The profile data can be extensive but valuable if approached appropriately. It will certainly raise many questions and points for discussions about individual children as well as groups of children or even the whole curriculum being provided.
This data aids knowledge that informs teaching and learning during the Early Years Foundation Stage and during Year 1 and Year 2. Comparisons with previous years, between areas of learning and assessment scales for all children and groups of children can help evaluate the success of the learning that has taken place and guide further development. Local and national comparisons can place into context the success of strategies.
