The Early Years Foundation Stage includes development matters statements which are drawn from birth to three matters, stepping stones and includes early learning goals.
These should be layered – they can set objectives for whole-schools, classes, groups within classes and individuals. At the individual level, basing these targets around students own achievements helps them to understand their progress and what they need to do next. These objectives provide visible tangible targets based upon observed strengths and weaknesses that can help children and schools move forward.
